Fitness Capacity Test App Reviews

Excellent!

Ill take it to the gym.

new experience

I did not realize that each day I have different heart rate zone that I should exercise within. First time I tried to follow it and FitPal kept pushing me. I was all sweating after the workout but must say I enjoyed the workout! No one else dared to ask me to speed up before. And I liked that! No problems detecting my pulse.

Personal Trainer

Seems interesting. I compared the results from Fitpal with the VO2Max testing and the difference was 2.437%. Im not ready to say whether it can be a full replacement for it yet, just need more time and more people to test it. I like the video showing how to place a finger on a camera for a better signal, it made the testing a breeze.

Right what I was looking for!

Im 52 years old but keep exercising almost every day. I was always worrying about straining my heart too much. What I read here about FitPal makes a lot of sense to me. I bought and tried it today and it looks working very well. Very simple, easy to use and fun! Im anxious to see how it finds my ability to exercise safely from day to day.

It works for me

I have been looking for an APP like this for a long time. I need to monitor my exercise intensity levels for health reasons during my exercise. Initially I had a problem with pulse detection. I tried several times and found out the pulse detection depends on my finger position and stability. Sometimes I have the same error message but generally it works well. It’s better for me to get a message about the problem with pulse detection than to get wrong advice about my exercise intensity which I have to monitor closely.

Great app

This app has a lot of potential. Im looking forward to seeing it progress.

Only For Tiny People

You should just use numeric keypad to enter weight, not a wheel that spins, spins, spins, then stops at 249. WTH? So this app is only for tiny people? You mean football player sized people shouldnt work out? Up yours! Gimme my $0.99 back before I squash you like a tiny bug. @$$#•|€

Has potential...

Nice interface, but very difficult to get a stable HR reading. Took ~15 attempts to finally get baseline & standing HR.

Great for bodybuilders!

FitPal was recommended to me by my friend who’s a professional fighter and his team used FitPal to pinpoint cases of overtraining. I’m not a professional athlete but bodybuilding is one of my biggest hobbies. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to VO2Max testing but I did not think I will find it for 99 cents. This app does calculate the functional capacity and does it quite accurately. If you do not know what functional capacity is, it’s like your energy level. Too much pressure on your body with not enough energy will result in strained heart. If you do not follow your numbers your life will be short. So I used fitpal for a week and here is my outline. Pros. 1. Great graphics! 2. Easy to follow with voice instructions. Even my grandma can do the test. 3. Functional capacity is displayed along with the target heart rate zone. My favorite part! 4. Detected my pulse easily. It did fail a couple of times but after I watched a video with instructions I figured how to use it. 5. Good size buttons. You can hardly miss them even after a tabata session. 6. I guess I can say good bye to the old good VO2Max… Cons. 1. Not so convenient to use on armband. 2. Exercise intensity value is useless. Functional capacity and target heart rate zone is enough. Well... So far it’s my best fitness app ever!

Measured my best workout time

Measured my functional capacity every hour as suggested on the app website to find out my best time of the day to work out. I got 11 am. The next day I went to gym at 11am instead of my usual 2pm and tried it out. Followed the same workout as before but everything went way easier than before. I guess thats a 25% increase in fitness capacity at the recommended time. Will continue playing with the app.

Fantastic!

My girlfriend laughed when saw me crawling upstairs after the workout with FitPal. She kept telling me for a long time that my workouts are not good for me. This time FitPal proved her right. I took this app to my next training and believe it or not fitpal kept pushing me like crazy complaining that my heart rate is too low. So I fired up. My tshirt was fully wet when I finished. GF comment was "Welcome to REAL fitness!" The bottom line is... I like it!

Very interesting and useful app

I did not realize that your heart rate can tell your functional capacity. And the readings were indeed different in the morning- when I was rested, and in the evening, when I was really tired. Ill use it every time before hitting the gym. This is what I needed to optimize my workout.

very useful tool

Used fitpal to adjust my interval training sets and training time. Id say if you hapen to use interval training crazy like me you better measure your heart with fitpal. After I changed my training time with FitPal and tweaked my rest time between sets by checking dynamics of my functional capacity, I really feel the difference! I enjoy my training a lot more and feeling my heart is working better, like a car engine that was warmed up. Just try it yourself!

Fascinating...

Im probably using FitPal not the way it is designed for but... I was checking my physical energy levels with FitPal throughout the day, and before breakfast/lunch/dinner. It is really fascinating to see how my energy level is changing. It is increasing for an hour after I woke up. It is dropping down after having food. The more I ate, the bigger the drop is. Revealed a large drop after a business meeting. The meeting was quite stressful though. This is really cool, I mean it. I can probably see which food gives me more energy and which one is more heavy on the stomach. And check how much energy I lose after an evening workout. Wow!!! Ask for FitPal developers. Please update the history report with a curve of energy levels which can be zoomed into day level. People would love that! Thank you!

Nice app

Great stuff. Exercised with FitPal for about a week now. The app advised me to encrease intensity. So I did... Now after 7 days of sweating I can say it was worth it. This week I made a better progress than in last year! Yes I mean it, in a year!!! I can feelt the difference right away. Climbing upstairs like 10 years ago and my heart is not beating that hard as before. Muscles feel way more relaxed and stronger. One thing I wanted to mention. Somehow Ive got a low capacity measurement in a middle of the week, so had to exercise less than a day before. Not sure whether it is a glitch or I just was tired that day. Regardless, this app deserves all stars!

instant heart rate needed

The app is cool. However, when I want to just check my heart rate, do I have to go through the whole fitness test to get it? I do not want to exercise, just need to know my heart rate. Add this feature!

Just great

Never heard before about functional capacity and now Im all about it. I love the ability to measure my energy levels during the daya and especially meals as Im thoroughly following my diet plan. Now I can see what food takes more energy to process... Some foods are more tough for my stomach than I expected before... About training. I could not figure out before what days to pick for training as at different days I have different time windows for working out. Now I can clearly see that at particular days and times I have way higher functional capacity, so my calendar is now well-organized. Like the FitPal guidance when working out, I was looking for something like this for a long time. Recommend!

Must have

Could not think that exercising could be so exhausting and pleasant at the same time. Thank you FitPal!

Bad HR detect

While other similar apps detect it in several sec. and are very accurate, this app cannot detect a stable pulse, and after just stops. And that is in the rest position. Cannot imagine how can be used during workout. Will change the rate when it will measure the HR, and dont tell me I move, or dont place the finger correctly

Made workout a fun

Have been using FitPal for 2 weeks by now. At first it took me a good 30-45 min to figure out the right way of placing the finger. I thought I already worked hard enough but FitPal had another point of view. The app kept screaming "Fire Up" that made me sweating like never before. Have to admit that my first workout with FitPal I will never forget. I was fully exhausted but at the same time unbelievably relaxed. I never slept better than now. I got a feeling like my skin is now breathing and overall I feel more relaxed. Thats an amazing experience. Highly recommend to try! Update: like the shortcut to check my heart rate!
